On 17 Dec 1882 his marriage certificate said that he was a 21-year-old bachelor and stationer and that he lived at 36 Wandsworth Road, Lambeth, Surrey. His father, Joel Simpson, was a warehouseman. 2

On 4 May 1890 his son Leonard's baptism certificate said he was a stationer's cutter and he lived at 9 Fircroft Road, Streatham, Surrey. 5

On 5 Apr 1891 he appeared on the census at 9 Fircroft Road, Streatham, Surrey as a 30-year-old stationer's assistant cutter. 3

On 22 Jan 1894 his son Leonard's school admittance register said he lived at 70 Noyna Road, Tooting, Surrey. 6

On 31 Mar 1901 Charles appeared on the census at 45 Burnham Road, St. Albans, Herts as a 39-year-old printer's warehouseman. 4
