• On 6 Jan 1857 his marriage certificate said that he was a batchelor of full age, working as a butcher and that he lived at Park Street, St. Pancras, Middx. His father, Mortimore, was shown as a builder. 7

• On 13 May 1860 his daughter Ellen Maria's birth certificate said he was a butcher and he lived at 13 Bolton Street, Westminster, Middx. 8

• On 7 Apr 1861 Alfred appeared on the census at Great College Street, Westminster, Middx as a 25-year-old butcher. 9
