He served as a private in the 13th Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment with the British expeditionary force in the Western European theatre. 7

On 8 Oct 1929 his estate was probated at the London registry to his brother George Banks coach builder. Effects 648 12s. At the time of his death he was living at 55 Cowper Street, Hove, Sussex. 8
