• On 3 Apr 1881 he appeared on the census at Foxbridge Farm, Kirdford, Sussex as a 44-year-old farmer of 156 acres employing 2 men and 1 boy. 7
• On 5 Apr 1891 John appeared on the census at Diddlesford Farm, North Chapel, Sussex as a 57-year-old farmer. 8
• On 31 Mar 1901 he appeared on the census at the Wheatsheaf Inn, Rumbold's Hill, Midhurst, Sussex as a 64-year-old beer house keeper. 9
John married Emily STILWELL, daughter of William STILWELL and Unknown, on 29 Dec 1857 at the Parish Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, Godalming, Surrey.1 2 (Emily STILWELL was born about 1839 in Chiddingfold, Surrey 4.)
• Their witnesses were Anthony Stilwell and Harriett Ellis. 1
