On 3 Aug 1863 his marriage certificate said that he was a 21-year-old batchelor who worked as a moulder and that he lived at 19 Back Hadfield Street, Ancoats, Lancs. His father, William Grantham, was a bobin turner. 1

On 26 Jun 1865 his daughter Catherine's birth certificate said he was an iron moulder. 3
