• He left school at 14. 2 • His religion was Church of England. 2 • He worked as a male murse in a steelworks in Southport before the second world war. 2 • His birth was registered during the quarter ended Dec 1893 at the Ecclesall Bierlow registration district, with GRO reference Vol 9c, Page 893. 6 • On 31 Mar 1901 he appeared on the census at 27 Parsonage Street, Nether Hallam. 7 • On 2 Apr 1911 he appeared on the census at 152 Providence Road, Ecclesall where he was shown as an errand boy for a tailor. 8 • On 3 Oct 1914 his marriage certificate said that he lived at 303 Springvale Road, Sheffield and that he was a 21-year-old bachelor who worked as an engineer (miller). His father, Henry Stead, was a carpenter. 1 Earl married Mabel DRABBLE, daughter of Joseph DRABBLE and Harriet BAMFORTH, on 3 Oct 1914 in Christ Church Protestant Mission, Ecclesall Road, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.1 2 3 (Mabel DRABBLE was born on 23 Dec 1894 at 31, Cundy Street, Nether Hallam, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England,2 9 died in Jun 1971 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England 2 and was buried in Stannington Cemetery, Stannington, Yorkshire, England 2.) The cause of her death was pneumonia following a fall due to Parkinson's Disease.2
